Paramjit L. Mahli, CEO of The Rainmakers Roundtable

Paramjit L. Mahli is the founder of the award-winning SCG Legal PR Network, a service that connects legal experts with reporters nationally and internationally. Mahli has worked in the communications sector for the legal and finance industries for 18 years, with experience in journalism, marketing, public relations, and teaching in the U.S. and abroad. In addition, she specializes in PR and marketing-related training and consulting services. Mahli has worked as a producer and reporter for international and domestic news organizations, including the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Financial Post, CNN, CNNfn and The Journal of Commerce.

With a client base of seasoned lawyers and finance executives, Mahli’s clients include top-tier law firms such as Chadbourne & Parke and financial services experts such as Ron Shelp, former American International Group (AIG) executive and author “Fallen Giant: The Amazing Story of Hank Greenberg and the History of AIG” (2006). Her clients are often featured in leading global and domestic TV, radio and print outlets such as Associated Press, Bloomberg, NPR, BBC, Financial Times, BusinessWeek, Fortune, Money magazine, The Times, Stern magazine, Guardian UK, Dubai Eye, CNN, Die Zeit, CNBC, South China Morning Post, Le Monde, BBC World News, ABC, Fox Business News and much more.

She has been quoted in publications such as Lawyers USA and Long Island Business News. Her work is also featured in a book by international legal expert Dr. Silvia Hodges titled “Winning Legal Business from Medium-sized Companies” (2011).  

Mahli is Co-Chair of the Communications Committee of the New York Chapter of the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) and a member of the Association of Continuing Legal Education and the Public Relations Society of America. Mahli also serves as a Judge for the News & Documentary Emmy Awards for The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Her philanthropic efforts include volunteering for the Waterkeeper Alliance and Kiva.

She has also spoken on various CLE panels on marketing for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and has been a guest lecturer at Fordham Law School for its LLM students. Mahli frequently writes for and teaches CLEs and teleseminars on topics such as connecting legal experts with reporters, training associates, crisis communication and social media.

In 2005, Mahli started The Sun Communication Group, her own PR and marketing consultancy for law firms, and later launched SCG Legal PR Network in 2009. Less than a year after its launch, SCG Legal PR Network won the Gold MarCom Award for creativity and innovation. In 2010, SCG Legal PR Network was a Finalist in the Best New Service of the Year category in the 7th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Mahli was awarded a scholarship to Anne McKevitt’s Million Dollar Plus Club, E100 Group Coaching program in April 2011.

Mahli’s media relations experience includes outreach efforts for a new economic indicator gauging consumer intentions on credit which garnered an honorable mention from the highly prestigious Magellan Awards. Her additional experience encompasses several areas, including media relations, organizing conferences, arranging seminars, and booking speakers. Some of these experiences include:   

    • Assisting with UNICEF’s 2007 conference on International Year of Sanitation after The Sun Communication Group was approached to participate by JAM Events.
    • Organizing a conference on “The State of the American Consumer” in 2003 for Cambridge Consumer Credit Index. Speakers included Mark Zandi, Economy.com; Diane Swonk, Bank One; Robert Manning, Rochester Institute of Technology; and Kathleen Johnson, Federal Reserve Bank.
    • Arranging the National Minority Business Council’s International Trade two-day conference series, “Winning Globally.” The focus was on the nuts and bolts of doing business in Asia, Russia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. David L. Aaron, Under Secretary, U.S. Department of Commerce, broke news regarding the Clinton Administration’s landmark international trade initiatives.
    • Booking Joseph B. Treaster, New York Times reporter and author of “Paul Volcker: The Making of a Financial Legend,” for a breakfast speaking engagement at the New York chapter of the National Association of Business Economists.
    • Booking Roger Ferguson, Vice Chairman of Federal Reserve, to speak at the National Association of Business Economists. The Sun Communication Group acted as media liaison while Vice Chairman Ferguson was in New York.
    • Positioning Allen Grommet, Economist at Cambridge Consumer Credit Index, to be a keynote speaker at the October 2004 Collection and Credit Card Conference in Arizona.
    • Booking Frank Fernandez, Director of Research, Securities Industry Association, to speak on the current state of Wall Street for Williams Capital Group in New York.

 

John Sirabella has over 20 years of experience in marketing and communications. He has trained attorneys and executives in communication and management skills across the U.S.  He has facilitated workshops and coached attorneys at top law firms including Milbank Tweed, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, Allen & Overy, Brown Rudnick, and White & Case (among others).  He has also worked extensively with senior executives at financial institutions such as Merrill Lynch. 

 He worked for over 15 years developing and managing the U.S. sales, marketing, and communications strategies of the National Film Board of Canada.  John helped to position the agency as an internationally renowned and award-winning producer and distributor of theatrical, educational and television documentaries and animation.  His strategic skills were crucial to their success in securing Academy Award® nominations and Academy Awards®, corporate sponsorships and government funding.

 John started his career as a communications skills instructor at Consolidated Edison and has been a marketing consultant for clients in the film, fashion and beauty industries. He has worked as a management consultant at the World Trade Institute and has taught film history and criticism at New School University. He holds an M.A. in Film & Media Studies from New School University and an M.A. in English from New York University.
